That is why a good anatomical sock should strike a balance between durability and comfort.

But we need to be very careful here.
For a toe-separated sock to be considered anatomical, the toe box must be genuinely wide. It is not enough for it to be slightly more elastic or a little more comfortable than that of a conventional sock.
It must have enough space to prevent the toes from being pushed toward the center.
Because if the toe box still pushes the toes together, the sock will not respect the foot's natural shape, even if it seems comfortable.
Anatomical socks and barefoot footwear: a logical combination
If you wear barefoot or foot-friendly footwear, anatomical socks make even more sense.
Barefoot footwear is designed to allow the foot to move naturally. To achieve this, it usually has a wide toe box, a flexible sole, zero drop, and no rigid structures that restrict movement.
But if we wear a narrow sock inside that footwear, we will be contradicting part of that freedom.
It makes little sense to wear a shoe with room for your toes if the socks then keep them together.

Unfortunately, we very often see them sold as anatomical socks when the toe box is only slightly wider than a normal one, but that is not enough to make them genuinely anatomical.
The main idea is simple: an anatomical sock should not force the foot to adapt.
It should allow the foot to maintain its shape, space, and freedom.
Because if we truly want to take care of our feet, choosing good footwear is not enough. We also need to pay attention to what we wear right underneath.
