Frequently Asked Questions

Related to our barefoot footwear models.
How do I know what my size is? Sinal mais

Within each shoe listing, you will find a link labeled “Size Guide.” This link will guide you on how to measure your foot correctly and choose the right size for the model you want.

Remember that for barefoot footwear to serve its purpose, you need to leave at least an additional margin of approximately 0.7 cm. In other words, when you measure your foot, add the margin we recommend for the model to that length, then look for the closest size in the size chart.

We have an ebook in which we explain this in greater depth.

How do you transition to barefoot shoes? Sinal mais

To transition to barefoot footwear, start gradually. Wear your barefoot shoes for short periods at first, allowing your feet to adapt. Gradually increase the time you wear them to strengthen your muscles. Maintain a natural posture and pay attention to the way you walk. Listen to your body, and if you feel any discomfort, reduce the amount of time you wear them.

Here’s a blog post explaining how to make a proper transition to barefoot footwear:

How to clean each model? Sinal mais

FREEDOM MODEL is recommended to be hand-washed. Soak or submerge the shoes in warm or cold water with a mild detergent or neutral soap. Use a brush to scrub away dirt. You can remove the laces and soak them or put them in the washing machine. Scrub the entire mesh surface. You can use a stiffer brush to clean the sole. Once you have cleaned them, place the shoes in a cool, well-ventilated area to air-dry. Avoid leaving them in the sun or near heat sources, such as radiators, as this may affect the shape and integrity of the materials.

We do not recommend washing them in a washing machine, as some structural parts may come loose, become deformed, or deteriorate.

The insoles must not be washed in a washing machine under any circumstances, as they could tear, shrink, or bleed color. Always clean them by hand and with great care.

If you choose to wash them in a washing machine (shoes or insoles), you do so at your own risk, and Roots Barefoot will not be responsible for any damage that may occur.

FOR THE URBAN/ COURTLINE MODEL, putting them in the washing machine is not recommended. Use a clean, soft cloth or a soft brush to remove dirt from the surface.
Do not use harsh cleaning products.
Once the dirt and residue have been removed, wipe the shoes with a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining cleaning product.
Allow the shoes to air-dry completely in a cool, well-ventilated place. Do not expose the shoes to direct sunlight or heat.
If the shoes are very dirty, you may need to deep-clean them with a specialized microfiber cleaner.
Follow the cleaner’s instructions carefully and test it first on an inconspicuous area to make sure it does not damage the leather.

If you choose to wash them in a washing machine (shoes or insoles), you do so at your own risk, and Roots Barefoot will not be responsible for any damage that may occur.

FOR THE LIVANA MODEL:

Do not machine-wash

Exterior: Clean with a damp cloth or a soft-bristle brush and neutral soap diluted in water. Rub gently to avoid damaging the technical fabric.
Avoid using harsh products, bleach, or strong detergents.
Print: Wipe with a slightly damp, soft cloth and neutral soap. Do not rub hard in order to preserve the textures.
Interior: Clean with a barely damp cloth using water and neutral soap. Do not soak the material.
If it has a removable insole, take it out and clean it separately.

Drying: Dry in the shade, in a well-ventilated place.
Do not use a dryer or radiators, and do not expose them directly to sunlight.
You can put paper inside to absorb moisture and preserve their shape.

If you choose to wash them in a washing machine (shoes or insoles), you do so at your own risk, and Roots Barefoot will not be responsible for any damage that may occur.

NOMAD MODEL
Although they can be put in the washing machine, we do not recommend it, mainly because the Nomad shoes have an interior made of a type of material that can become matted during the washing machine’s strong spinning cycles. It is a bit like putting a down jacket in the washing machine.

If you still decide to put them in, always make sure to:

  • Use a short, gentle cycle.
  • Use a low temperature.
  • Wash them with plenty of other items (towels, blankets, etc.) to prevent them from hitting the drum and becoming deformed or matted.

However, our ideal recommendation is to wash them by hand. You can do this very easily:

  1. Use lukewarm water in a basin or directly under the tap
  2. Scrub the surface with a soft brush.
  3. Use neutral soap or even a little mild detergent for delicate clothing
  4. Rinse gently and air-dry (do not use a dryer)
